Washington County 4 H members performed well at the Colorado State Fair with the 44 projects entered into the 4 H General and Family Consumer Science exhibits. With the fair opening on Friday, August 25, these projects are on display at the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo through Labor Day.
County youth earned two Grand Champions and one Reserve Grand Champion rosettes. These youth first earned the Unit Champion first; and then went on to earn a higher award. Sara Wylie earned her Grand Champion rosette for her unit 9 Cake Decorating project. Montana Mason won a Grand Champion rosette for his unit 25 Outdoor Cooking project. Tate Schrock earned a Reserve Grand Champion ribbon for his Geospatial Intermediate project.
At the Colorado State Fair 4 H projects that are county winners from around the state are brought to Pueblo to compete at the state level. The projects are judged and ranked Champion, Reserve Champion, and then third through tenth placing, with the remaining projects receiving a State Qualifier ribbon. The unit champions are then in completion for Grand and Reserve Grand Champions in each of three age groups: Juniors (8 10 years), Intermediates (11 13 years) and Seniors (14 18 years).
