Fashion retailer H said it plans to open a 20,000 square foot store in Patrick Henry Mall on Nov. 3 with giveaways.
“H is an exciting addition to Patrick Henry Mall,” said Patrick Henry Mall Marketing Director Mikia Ross. “It complements our current stores by offering additional fashion options at a great price point. They carry apparel and accessories for the whole family, which enhances the shopping experience for our community.”
The retailer, which also has a Hampton store at Peninsula Town Center, plans to add 30 employees in Newport News. The first 100 shoppers in line at the Nov. 3 noon opening will receive giveaways valued between $10 and $300.
Other changes at Patrick Henry Mall include Victoria’s Secret’s recent relocation and expansion with a Pink storefront, and a new Bath Body Works store including the company’s White Barn Candle concept is under construction, Ross said. Journey’s Kidz shoe store is also joining the mall as a tenant, she added.
In other retail news, Hampton Roads’ Philip Scotti opened a Philip Michael Fashion for Men store at Jefferson Commons at 12551 Jefferson Ave. in Newport News on Oct. 3. The store is the first to offer the popular men’s fashion brand Steven Land as a store within a store, according to a news release.
The first Philip Michael Fashion for Men store opened in 2007 and expanded to five locations by 2010, including a store at 22 Coliseum Crossing in Hampton, the retailer said. The Newport News store is the sixth.
Scotti, a regional Retail Alliance board member, said he’s been able to succeed by offering top brands at prices lower than department stores. He also hand picks the items in his stores, looking for unique styles that big box stores don’t offer.
“I’ve seen this industry from all sides, and what I’ve learned is that you not only have to keep a close eye on the latest trends, but a close ear to what your customers are saying,” Scotti said. “That’s what we do. And it works.”.
