When it comes to seasonal allergies Wichita ranks as one of the worst cities in the country. The native grasses, weeds and agriculture often get the blame but you don’t have to suffer.

KAKE’s Lindi Simpson talked with a specialist about ways to survive this fall.

If your allergies are acting up, you’re not a lone.

Dr. Thomas Scott has specialized in allergy, asthma ans immunology for over 20 years. He says if there is one thing he knows, it’s this time of year is going to be busy for him and his staff.

He says there are some preventive measures you can take to keep your allergies from flaring up.

For starters, keep your windows and doors closed. If you take regular allergy medicine, make sure you’re consistent.

If you have dogs or cats, make sure you keep them groomed and vacuum their hair regularly.

If you do go outdoors some of the pollens and molds can get on you, Dr. Scott suggests you take a shower and put fresh clothes on before you get into bed.

Bottom line, taking some simple and effective steps can make a big difference in surviving this years allergy season.
