Reverend Frank Butler FLORENCE Funeral service for Reverend Frank Butler will be conducted 12 Noon Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Savannah Baptist Church, 2620 Alligator Rd., Effingham, SC. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens directed by Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC. Reverend Butler was the seventh of nine children of the late Wallace and Ida Lee Ragin Butler. He was born on January 7, 1950 in Florence , SC. He died on Saturday, January 11, 2014. Reverend Butler attended the public schools in Florence County graduating from Wilson High School in 1970. He continued his education at Francis Marion University graduating in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree. While at Francis Marion University, he accepted his calling into the ministry in 1979. Frank joined and became a member of Majority Baptist Church under Rev. Jackson, his father in the ministry. With a desire to learn, he furthered his education at Duke University, Durham, NC and received his Masters of Divinity degree in 1986. Reverend Butler was the assistant pastor at Majority Missionary Baptist Church, Florence, SC (1979 1984); pastor at Bethesda Baptist Church, Society Hill, SC (1984 1988); pastor at Mount Olive Baptist Church, Mullins, SC (1988 1992); pastor at First Washington Baptist, Lancaster, SC (1992 2012). He retired at First Washington Baptist in 2012 due to illness. He was very proud of the work he did with the South Carolina Baptist Education and Missionary Convention, the NAACP, and the Young People Christian Assembly at Benedict College. In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert Lee Fox Butler, Charles Wallace Butler, Alvin Butler and Larry Butler; one sister, Margie Douglas. Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Brenda McKoy Butler; Children: Danita Y. Butler and Carlos D. Butler of Florence, SC, Yohance (Montese) McClain of Richmond, VA, Robert (Regina) Williams of Gastonia, NC, and Franklin Butler of the home; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three siblings: Barbara J. Butler, Carolyn Butler, and Donald (Myra) Butler of Florence, SC; seven sister in laws; four brother in laws; two dedicated and devoted friends, Lavon Graves and William “Hook” McMillian; several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Ms. Barbara J. Butler, 1113 Haskell Ave. (Brookgreen Community) Florence, SC.
