Four Sisters Treasures, owned by Gerri Eames, will open in a new location. The consignment thrift shop was named for Eames and her three sisters to honor their mother’s memory.

The new location with five times the space is tentatively slated to open Oct. 19, said owner Gerri Eames.

She wanted to reopen Oct. 1, but the shop in the former Grand Central Fitness location needed a bit more construction, Eames said. Grand Central Fitness was destroyed by a fire in February.

“Pending more complications, we hope to open a week from Sunday,” Eames said. The store celebrated its three year anniversary on Oct. 8.

Earlier this week, Eames’ husband Mike Eames and daughter in law Kristin Eames, were readying the new location. Kristin Eames was organizing clothing racks while her father in law built dressing rooms.

The store is named for Gerri Eames and her three younger sisters, the four sisters, to honor the memory of their mother, the late Harriett Lutz, Kristin Eames said. The younger sisters are not part of the business.

Gerri Eames was one of seven children. She has three brothers and three sisters.

“Coming out of the Great Depression, my mother raised us frugally. She made most of our clothes and shopped thrift shops,” Gerri Eames said. “She always wanted us to look nice and provide the best things for us.

“She always told us, ‘Do the best you can with what you’ve got,'” Gerri Eames recalled.

The consignment thrift shop features gently used clothing and shoes for adults and children, furniture, housewares and toys.

The furniture and children’s sections are an expansion, Mike Eames said. There wasn’t enough space for all of the goods at the former Elmira Heights location.

“We went from 1,400 square feet to 8,000 square feet,” he said. “We now have five times the space so we can offer more.”

Gerri Eames takes special care of the items she offers at Four Sisters. Signs in the dressing rooms encourage shoppers to look over their selections for imperfections and bring them to her attention if they find any.
