Family practice physician Kristine Delamarter has joined Madras Medical Group and will begin seeing patients Nov. 1.
She will be seeing patients of all ages for general health care, and also does obstetrics.
“I’ve been trained to do C sections and small office surgeries,” Dr. Delamarter said, adding, “My interests are in women and pediatrics, but I will see all patients.”
Delamarter, who grew up and attended high school in Federal Way, Wash., said she has wanted to become a doctor since she was a child.
After high school, she attended Grove City College, a private liberal arts school in Pennsylvania, and earned a bachelor’s degree in molecular biology.
There, she also met Madras native Scott Delamarter, the son of longtime science teacher and school secretary Vic and Nyla Delamarter.
She and Scott were married in 1999 in Pennsylvania, then returned to live in Madras for nine months until she entered Temple Medical School in Philadelphia, Pa. Meanwhile, Scott, who was employed as an engineer with KEITH Manufacturing in Madras, was able to keep his job by telecommuting from Philadelphia.
After earning her medical degree, they moved to Washington where she completed her family practice residency at Tacoma Family Medicine, a clinic connected with Tacoma General Hospital.
During her fourth year in medical school, and again during her residency training, Delamarter spent a month working as a medical assistant with the doctors at Madras Medical Group.
When she received her physician’s degree in August, she decided to become a partner at MMG, joining Dr. Douglas Lieuallen, Dr. Suzanne El Attar, Dr. Dave Evans, Dr. Gary Plant, and Physician Assistant Keith Long.
The Delamarters have settled in Madras with their two young children, Brooke, 3, and Lincoln, 20 months.
Delamarter said small town life suits her just fine.
“Family is important to me and is seems like community and family is important here. It’s especially fun to be a doctor in a small town, and my training is geared toward rural practice,” she said.
Her personal interests include outdoor activities, both downhill and water skiing, playing with her kids, and jogging. She recently completed her first marathon in Portland.
