Now it’s a vibrant marketplace with customers coming in and furniture going out.”In the time in retail apocalypse when most people are closing doors, we’re finding those unused spaces and developing a place for people to shop,” said Stanton, director of marketing for the Rush Market.They opened their first location in an abandoned grocery store in the Miracle Hills area.”There’s still signs that say, ‘fresh meat,’ on the wall, so we played it up and our rugs were back in our dairy department and our wall dcor was in fresh meat,” Stanton said.The shopping experience at the Rush Market isn’t so traditional. Unlike most stores, their doors stay closed multiple days a week and pop back open with a surprise.”The idea and the concept is we close during the beginning of the week so that we can refill our floor with fresh finds and then we pop open so our members can come shop those fresh finds,” Stanton said.Why the rush? New items hit the market each day, but the numbers are limited.”Everything we get in is primarily one of one, so when you see something, you want to get the rush. You want to grab it because it may not be there the next hour or even the next day,

” said Waugh, director of merchandising for the Rush Market.Customers say the unique concept is one that’s catching on.”It’s just kind of hit and miss sometimes and that’s amazing, because the next day you could come in here and there’s something different,” said customer Trevor Webel.The Rush Market is members only, targeting shoppers in the metro on social media. Waugh and Stanton said this allows them to keep their business local, get to know customers and offer competitive prices.”When products come into the market, we actually look at what they’re being sold for online and price them underneath that,” Stanton said.They said the prices keep people coming back for more, with a growing membership and a new location to prove their quick success.”To grow this fast and this quickly just is a testament to what we’re doing here and how well it resonates with Omaha people,” Stanton said.A membership at the Rush Market is free. They ask for a person’s name, email and zip code. Stanton said right now, they’re looking to keep their business locally focused.”The platform is a local model,” Stanton said. “So we started this as an Omaha based company. We wanted to service the individuals in Omaha and so the idea is to be unique and friendly and a community type of a shopping experience.”
